Tarantula of the Month of February
Scientific name: Acanthoscurria Geniculata
Common Name: Brazilian Whiteknee Tarantula or simply "genic"
Other Names: Brazilian Whiteknee Birdeater, Brazilian Whitekneed Tarantula, Brazilian White Banded Bird Eating Tarantula, Brazilian Black and White Stripe Birdeater, White Knee Tarantula, Whitekneed Bird Eating Tarantula, Giant White Knee Birdeater, Giant Whitekneed Tarantula, and Santarem Pink Haired Bird Eating Tarantula.

A. Geniculata is one of my favorite tarantula because it is large, eats like a dragon and unlike many other large terrestrial tarantulas, it is beautiful because of this stunning black and white patterns. It's a great display tarantula because it spends most of its time outside its hide (My genic doesn't hide at all). Giant white knees are semi aggressive species and will immediately flick urticating hairs if disturbed. Handling is not recommended for this beauty, except for thrill seekers and experienced keepers. This specie is great for starters and hobbyists who wants to see action everyday and is an excellent addition to your collection!
Full grown size : 7-8 inches. male is smaller
Temperature :80 to 85° F . Room temperature will do.
Humidity :75 to 80%.
I've provided my genic with a clean water dish. it also serves as her CR. She usually throws her left overs and sh**s in it. LOL
I mist one side of the enclosure once a week.
Diet: b.lateralis, worms/meal worms, crickets, mouse(occasionally)
I feed my genic with adult b.lateralis and super worms.
Roach nymphs will do for slings.
Housing: floor space is more important than height for terrestrial species.
I house my 6" "genic" in a 14x10x10 glass enclosure with clean substrate (i.e cocopeat) and a bark for decoration. When she was still a sling, i placed her in a clear plastic container with air holes for ventilation and transferred her when she's too big to fit in the container.
tips:
Always check the substrate if it's too wet or too dry.
Remove dead feeders and uneaten body parts (i.e. wings,legs etc.)because it will attract flies, ants and mites.
Always provide clean water and clean feeders.
My genic inspires me everyday. My day wouldn't be complete w/o staring at her, watching her hunt and munch on the roaches that i feed her.
