Tarantula of the month: JUNE
summary lang ni ako ha... hehehe
Scientific name: Chromatopelma Cyaneopubescens
Common name: Greenbottle Blue Tarantula
This extremely colorful species is found in Venezuela. It is one of the most colorful tarantulas in the world. Metallic blue legs, blue-green carapace and pumpkin orange abdominal hairs make it a favorite of the hobby. As youngsters, they have pink legs, a golden carapace, and a red and black patterning on the abdomen. They grow fairly quickly, eat a good amount, and make much web.
The genus name Chromatopelma actually derives from the Greek word "chroma", meaning "color".
Note: The reason Greenbottle Blue Tarantulas create such broad webs may be to secure a grip on their unstable and open habitat of shrubs and sand dunes. Needless to say; they are not arboreal.
My experience with this tarantula:
-they are medium growers
-they are semi-skittish
-very sensitive to light
-was a very heavy eater (from 1inch to 4inches)
-i dont provide a hide for my gbb but the room for my tarantula is dark (but you can provide a hide if u want)
-been using cocopeat as substrate
-no set-up in my terrarium (ang web ra ang nag daghan sa sod... hehehe)
-webs alot (murag arboreal... grabe mag web)
-diet: lats, superworms, dubias
-misting my gbb's terrarium every 3 days or so. (high humidity can kill gbb's)
-provided a water dish
-housing would be... floor space is more important than height
-if u want a colorful tarantula, this is also good for beginners (kay sa akong experience... it doesnt bite and it doesnt flick... mudagan lang kung i attempt nimo ug handle... but handling is not recommended... hehehe)
-been breeding my gbb last saturday
:06-05-10 (6:30pm)
-introduced the male to my female. male was courting her and alot of insertion attempts for 2 hours+...male was able to leave without being attacked by the female... will be introducing the male again after 2 days...
:06-07-10 (9:00pm)
-introduced the male again. still alot of insertion attempts. decided to leave my male inside her tank. after an hour, pinktoe checked the tank and saw the male on the other end of the tank. i hope the male got an insertion. will be introducing the male again tonight...
:06-10-10 (7:00pm)
-placed the male in the female's tank and leave him there for a while... when i checked the female's tank... saw the male on the other end of the tank... but... the web mattings were destroyed... and the female was scratching her epigastric furrow and the male is cleaning his palps... its a sign of a possible insertion... lets wait and see... ehehehehe
-will be posting updates on the breeding... soon... hehehe
for questions: pwede mo mu txt nako... 09273444435... or u can post it here... hehehe... salamat sa opportunity na ma share nako akong experience with this tarantula...
