Tarantula of the Month of April
Panama Blonde ( Psalmopoeus Pulcher )
Genus: Psalmopoeus
Pics:
Psalmopoeus Pulcher is one of the nicest tarantula that i've kept. The genus is native to Central America and South America including the West Indies, mainly on panama by its common name. In this Genus there are only 12 species they are:
* Psalmopoeus affinis Strand, 1907 — West Indies
* Psalmopoeus cambridgei Pocock, 1895 — Trinidad
* Psalmopoeus ecclesiasticus Pocock, 1903 — Ecuador
* Psalmopoeus emeraldus Pocock, 1903 — Colombia
* Psalmopoeus intermedius Chamberlin, 1940 — Panama
* Psalmopoeus irminia Saager, 1994 — Venezuela
* Psalmopoeus langenbucheri Schmidt, Bullmer & Thierer-Lutz, 2006 — Venezuela
* Psalmopoeus maya (Witt, 1996) — Belize
* Psalmopoeus plantaris Pocock, 1903 — Colombia
* Psalmopoeus pulcher Petrunkevitch, 1925 — Panama
* Psalmopoeus reduncus (Karsch, 1880) — Costa Rica
* Psalmopoeus rufus Petrunkevitch, 1925 — Panama
this type of tarantula are not typically known for being docile, they are fast and defensive. sometimes they just run, hide or jump from leaves to leaves to escaped from predators. that's what mine always do trying to escape whenever i handle her.
Psalmopoeus Pulcher is an arboreal tarantula, reaching from 4 to 5 inches.
Females lived longer than males around 15 years and males live less.
her enclosure is at the moment postponed due to lack of supply of acrylic and budget but anyhow her dimensions of her new enclo will be 7.5w x 7.5L x 15H an ideal height or minimal enclo height. drift wood would be her climbing, housing purposes.
Air holes is a must be, for humidity and temp control. air holes must be on top, both sides to keep it cool and alittle dry on the substrate side.
Substrate on her enclosure i use coco peat/coco fiber for a good hold of moisture, i make it half dry half wet to control the mites living in it.
if you want a tarantula for display this one is a must have, but for a beginners T's i wouldn't recommend this one. coz they're fast, jumpy and defensive.
more of her pics will be posted soon..
