About me being an arachnid hobbyist:
I started this hobby of mine last October of the year 2009, so 8 months na akong nasa hobby na ito.
I was a child, parati
At first I was in doubt if papasok bako sa hobby na ito, kasi tutol ang parents ko sa pag-aalaga nito (until now) saka kaya ko ba silang buhayin?
Dami kong query nuon kasi nga noob pako hehe.
I started with the specie “Hottentota hottentota” as my first scorp (imba hehe) kasi I do find them cheap
keysa sa beginner scorps like Heterometrus longimanus and Pandinus imperator,
which I later found out na hinde recommendable ang HH as beginner scorps, hehe tapos ang pagka adik ko ay nagpatuloy through succeeding months,
with new specie every month pang add sa collection.
My first T? “Orphnaecus pellitus” hehe, an old world T , then followed by a rosea, albo and baeri. Hinde ko sila type at first hinde dahil pangit sila kundi kasi
My friends and cousins find me as a weird individual with a weird hobby of keeping inverts, pero that doesn’t stop me into keeping them, mabuti na nga to
keysa mag sniff nang ganja, hehe.
How do I manage my arachnid friends with their set-ups:
As of now, wala pa talaga akong adult specimens or shall I say kokonti pa, so my set-up is somewhat simple and cheap.
I’m using pure, fine cocopeat for substrate, tapos sa mga semi-arid scorpions naman ay mix silica fine sand x cocopeat ( 30% sand, 70% cocopeat).
My substrates esp. the cocopeat are sun dried for 2 days ( yung gagamitin ko lang na amount of substrate ang ibibilad ko) prior to set-up para ma sterilize atsaka iwas mites.
I housed my adult scorpions in a 5x5x5 glass enclosure w/ acrylic cover (this enclosures are suitable lang sa mga maliliit na klase like some American bark scorpions).
I’m not particular sa design as long as comfortable ang scorpions ko, with the hides and all.
I always check my enclosures if ok lang ba ang pagka moist nito. I spray water directly sa substrate with an even stroke atsaka precision, ewan ko lang sa inyu,
pero base sa observation ko mas slow ang evaporation at the same time ayus ang pag circulate nang moisture. Just make sure na hinde masyadung basa
ang substrate at hinde mababasa ang scorpions and T’s mo because baka mag tantrums sila.
So far hinde ako naka experience nang grabeng mites infestation, slight lang , pag nang yari ito, change substrate lang ako kaagad saka prevention by removing uneaten prey.
Ants?
Feeding:
My inverts are fed with lateralis roach as staple food, yet, pinapakain ko sila nang varied diet such as crickets and mealworms. Sa crix pinuputol ku muna yung jumping hind legs
nila kasi eto ang madalas maiiwan pag-kinain, thus attracting mites.
Scorpions=
Schedule is: 5i - 7i once a week ( with in between mealtimes, parang equivalent sa snacks hehe occasional lang)
2i – 4i no particular schedule, kung power fed, thrice a week, kung hinde naman e tantsatansthan
Nalang.
Tarantulas= slings pa T’s ko, uhm twice a week.
Invert Crib:
They are housed in their respective containers and placed inside my bedroom, air conditioned every night (though I think wala naman problema with molting and growth rate) ,
init kada hapon. So I think favorable ang conditions. And since most of them are gagmay pa, I keep the small ones in the closet’s mini drawer.
Violent reactions and commentaries are highly welcomed.
Thanks for reading and more power sa Hobby.
Arachno Quote:
"Ang isang alakdan at gagamba ay hayop na may puso't damdamin, kung gusto mu silang bilhin at algaan edi bumili ka, wag mu lang sana kalimutan isaksak sa kokote mo na hinde sila bagay na binibili upang sa takdang araw ay itatapon mu lang. "
